Local 499 has 1150 members in the electric and natural gas industry.
Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa we have members
throughout Iowa, parts of Nebraska and South Dakota. We are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers which has
membership in Utilities, Outside Construction, Inside Construction, Manufacturing and
Railroads.

Our largest employer is MidAmerican
Energy also headquartered in Des Moines. MidAmerican Energy is a subsidiary of
MidAmerican Energy Holding Company with holdings throughout the world.
Approximately 1050 of our members work for MidAmerican Energy under four different
contracts.

We also represent four Rural Electrical Cooperatives or REC's with
five separate contracts.
Midland Power Cooperative is located in Jefferson, Iowa with crews in
Jefferson, Boone and Iowa Falls. We have two contracts with Midland Power one for
the physical group and one clerical.
Nishnabotna Valley
Cooperative is located in Harlan, Iowa.
Chariton Valley Cooperative is located in Albia, Iowa.
Clarke County Cooperative is located in Osceola, Iowa.
