Federal DOT rules on CDL’s and drug testing

There have been two major changes to the Federal DOT rules on CDL’s and drug testing. Starting October 1, 2010 a two new drugs, Ecstasy & Heroin have been added to the list of drugs tested. Also the limits on drugs in your system have been lowered. As an example, Marijuana has been lowered from 50 ng/ml to 15 ng/ml.

The DOT has also added texting while operating a commercial motor vehicle a disqualifying event for having a CDL license. If caught texting or emailing while operating with a CDL you will loose your CDL license. The rule goes into effect October 27, 2010. This is a huge issue for most of our membership that have to have a CDL for their jobs.

Both these new rules are Federal rules and cover all 50 States. If asked to sign a form saying you have “received” the new Drug Policy it is OK to sign the form.
