New Years Resolutions

GET INVOLVED

Most people have already made their New Year’s resolutions.  Some are to lose weight, workout more, stop smoking, quit drinking, and do more with your family.  Work less and play more.

This year we should add one more big Resolution to be added to your list.  Get involved.

Be an active  part of your local.  Go to the meetings, find out what’s going on, be a voice in the changes that need to take place. Join one of the committees to help your Union Brothers and Sisters with their causes or concerns.  Several committees are out there and just need people to volunteer their time.

We have drifted apart over the years and care only for number one, ourselves.  Union in definition is not a single person it is the joining of two or more people to become one stronger unit.  Please help the Union voice of IBEW Local 499 be one that is heard through out our territory.

STAY POLITICALLY INFORMED

The 2008 Legislature meets for session 1/14/08.  Pay attention to how your representative is voting on issues important to Union families.  Keep track of those who are not.  Be a political “junkie” this year about all that is going on.  It is an election year for a lot of these folks that want our vote.  Make sure they’ve earned it by their votes.  Follow the presidential candidates blogs and web pages.  The internet is a great tool for keeping you informed.

Write your congress person or senator if you don’t agree with their vote.  Let them know you’re watching them and encourage others to do so too.

Your Union lobbyists are keeping track of what’s going on at the state house.  You can stay informed!
